Help Run a Medical Facility for Women and Children in the Kashmir mountains! HOPE USA/UK are teaming up to bring healthcare to 10,000 women/children per year.

Summary:

HOPE's Chikaar MCHC is the second Maternal & Child Center in Azad Kashmir in an area which serves 10,000 women and children annually!  Prior to the launch of this facility, women and children travelled 1.5 hours down the mountains to access healthcare and this becomes quite a challenge during an emergency.  With a medical facility located in the mountains, we have been able to service this community efficiently and save lives.

Background:

HOPE was fortunate enough to have received a donation of a vacant house in Azad Kashmir which is 1.5 hours from the new Azad Kashmir Maternal & Child Health Center we opened in November 2021.  This house is located 1.5 hours upwards in the mountains near a community of approximately 30,000 people.  During an emergency, villagers must travel down the mountain to access medical care and oftentimes this has resulted in a loss of lives of women and children.  We plan to renovate this house to convert it into a Maternal & Child Health Center to serve the nearby community.  We are fundraising for both renovation costs (renovation and equipment) along with monthly operating costs (health worker salaries, medical supplies, medicine).

Initial funds collected will be categorized as Sadaqa Jaariyah and go towards renovation costs.  Once renovation is complete, we will dedicate new funds raised to operating expenses of the MCHC and this will be categorized as Zakat.

Facts about Maternal & Infant Health in Pakistan:

Consider the dire reality in Pakistan with regards to maternal and infant health:

  • A 2018 UNICEF report revealed that Pakistan has the highest Infant Mortality Rate in the world – newborns here face a one in 22 chance of dying within a month of birth
  • Pakistan has a Maternal Mortality Rate of 127/100,000 which accounts for 28 percent of the global total

The good news is that a majority of maternal and infant deaths are preventable:

  • 80 percent of newborn deaths are preventable with trained midwives, clean water, proper hygiene, and breastfeeding within the first hour
  • Out of the 14,000 deaths of women due to childbirth 1/3 of these are preventable (4,500 per year)

Experience:

HOPE USA/UK have been at the forefront of the battle against maternal and infant mortality in Pakistan since 1998 - we operate a network of four hospitals which treat over 500,000 poor patients yearly - 70 percent of those patients are women. Altogether, 30,000 women are given prenatal care per year at our hospitals. Each year, our hospitals welcome 7,000 newborns via normal birth and 8,500 newborns via cesarean birth. Approximately 3,000 infants are given neonatal treatment.

Long-term Impact:

By establishing four hospitals in very poor communities which previously lacked medical facilities, HOPE USA has taken concrete steps towards reducing Pakistan's Maternal Mortality Rate and Infant Mortality Rate. Over the course of 23 years, we have built a level of trust within the communities in which we operate which has enabled us to introduce education and vocational training into our overall poverty alleviation strategies. Our goal is to end poverty in Pakistan.

About HOPE USA & HOPE UK

Health Oriented Preventive Education (HOPE) was the inspiration of Dr. Mubina Agboatwalla, a pediatrician by profession who helped eradicate polio from Pakistan in the early stages of her career.  Due to Dr. Mubina's medical background, HOPE's initial objective was to provide the poor with better access to medical centers and hospitals.  In a country grappling with basic issues such as lack of access to clean drinking water, poor maternal and infant health, malnutrition in children, prevention and treatment of diseases such as malaria, cholera, and tuberculosis, it already seemed as though HOPE had enough of a challenge on its hands. But soon Dr. Mubina realized that the cornerstone of a productive and forward-thinking community relies on both a healthy body and healthy mind. She honed her vision to an integrative approach that was twofold: health and education.

As a single woman in a male-dominated country, Dr. Mubina faced many challenges and setbacks; it was through perseverance and hard work that HOPE grew from a dream to a reality. Today, HOPE has a countrywide presence throughout Pakistan which includes hospitals, formal schools, informal schools, vocational centers, basic health clinics, mobile health clinics, and maternal health clinics, all which provide free or minimal-cost healthcare and education. Additionally, HOPE has been active in disaster relief efforts throughout Pakistan. We are humbled to say that we have grown to a network of hospitals and schools that treats 500,000 patients and educates 10,000 students per year, mostly women and children.

Wishing All a Peaceful and Joyous Eid ul Fitr  - Featuring HOPE Zia Colony Formal School Children and Karachi Public School Students!

Dear HOPE Friends,

Wishing All a Peaceful and Joyous Eid ul Fitr  - Featuring HOPE Zia Colony Formal School Children and Karachi Public School Students!

As yet another month of Ramadan has slipped into the memory books, the entire HOPE Team along with our beneficiaries would like to thank all our supporters for their gracious contributions over the years.  We have reached so many milestones along the way and transformed so many lives, all through your backing.

This year, Karachi Public School students teamed up with HOPE's Zia Colony Formal School children to create and exchange memories that we would like to share with our supporters.  Karachi Public School students visited HOPE schoolchildren and engaged in day-long activities which included mentorship, arts and crafts, and homemade Eid cards.

HOPE's Zia Colony Formal School children thoroughly cherished this special visit by Karachi Public School students!  We are beyond humbled that our students were able to spend quality time with mentors and role models.  The students are so thankful for the Eid gifts and the Eid card creation activity!  This occasion is a memory they will hold close and we look forward to future visits and opportunities to grow together.

Wishing all our supporters a blessed and fulfilling Eid ul Fitr.  We hope you love the Eid cards by the children.

Warm regards,

Dear HOPE Friends,

Bidding Ramadan 2025 Farewell from Azad Kashmir - Featuring KIREA's Bani Langrial Home School Children

As another Ramadan has gone by, we wish all our supporters the best for their generosity and empathy.  Bidding you farewell are an array of our Home School children iin Azad Kashmir.  These children live in high altitudes and remote terrain that is difficult to access even under normal circumstances.  Despite this, our Field Team made sure to take extra measures to make sure that these children are able to partake in the blessings of Ramadan, as their everyday lives are already replete with sacrifices.

Featured in this post are children from KIREA's Home School in Bani Langrial (and extremely impoverished and underserved mountain village that is difficult to access) along with children from HOPE's Home School in Habib Dori.

You May Still Partake in Our Ramadan Efforts:

  • A Month of Food Rations: $33/Family (8 People)
  • Door to Door Iftars : $1/Person
  • Eid Clothes for Children: $17/Child

We are so appreciative of KIREA for taking on the Bani Langrial project!  This Home School effort is already showing tremendous promise for these children.

We're Rushing to Reach the Needy During This Blessed Month....and You Can, Too!

Dear HOPE Friends,

We're Rushing to Reach the Needy During This Blessed Month....and You Can, Too!

As this blessed month of Ramadan trickles to a close, our Field Team is working overtime to amplify the spiritual rewards of charity for our supporters.  In an Islamic country such as Pakistan, Eid is celebrated with great fervor and enthusiasm.  When one is faced with the harshness of poverty on a daily basis, on special holidays such as Eid, this burden can feel even more overwhelming.  This is why our Field Team goes the extra mile to try to bring some relief to the lives of the underprivileged.  The smiles and happiness on the children's faces is more than we could have ever hoped.

These pictures are of our recent outreach efforts in Rehri Goth, Cattle Colony, and Mujahid Colony, three urban slum districts within Karachi, Pakistan.

It's Not Too Late to Participate in Our Ramadan Efforts:

  • A Month of Food Rations: $33/Family (8 People)
  • Door to Door Iftars: $1/Person
  • Eid Clothes for Children: $17/Child

All the best prayers to all during these blessed days.

HOPE Champions Zia Colony Residents - Inner City Comes to Life Before Eid, Plus Iffco Ghee

Dear HOPE Friends,

HOPE Champions Zia Colony Residents - Inner City Comes to Life Before Eid, Plus Iffco Ghee

Zia Colony is an urban slum district within the Karachi metropolitan area that has been steeped in poverty for decades.  Approximately 25 years ago, HOPE began taking concrete steps to introduce basic Healthcare, Education, and Vocational Training to the residents of this inner city neighborhood. Today, children of Zia Colony have a bright future ahead of them, thanks to HOPE's interventional efforts and the generosity of our supporters.

We would also like to take the opportunity to highlight our corporate supporter, Iffco - as one can see in the pictures, Iffco has been silently working behind the scenes this Ramadan to pitch in for a variety of our efforts including the Grand Iftar for 1,000 Underprivileged Students in Karachi and the distribution of ghee with Food Rations.  We are tremendously grateful for their humility and support.

The attached pictures show our Field Team's outreach efforts in Zia Colony before the end of Ramadan 2025.

Please Help Us Reach Underserved Communities and Promise Them a Brighter Future:

HOPE Rushes in to Serve Rural Villages with Food Rations, Door-to-Door Iftars, and Eid Clothes Before the End of Ramadan

HOPE Rushes in to Serve Rural Villages with Food Rations, Door-to-Door Iftars, and Eid Clothes Before the End of Ramadan

Just in the nick of time for Eid ul Fitr, our Field Team is rushing to serve far-flung village areas in Pakistan.  Since these areas are extremely impoverished, one can easily gauge the sheer happiness on the children's faces when they receive new Eid Clothes.  Families here struggle in all aspects of basic needs, especially Food Security and Shelter.  When children in remote village regions receive new Eid Clothes, it means the world to them because families in these areas cannot even dream of having such luxuries.

In our special 2025 Ramadan efforts, multiple village regions received Food Rations, Door-to-Door Iftars, and their children received new Eid Clothes.  Featured in these pictures are Dhabeji and Link Road in rural Sindh.

HOPE has a growing presence in remote village areas throughout Pakistan with poverty intervention measures such as Healthcare, Education, Vocational Training, Food Security, Clean Water, and Disaster Relief, Ramadan Outreach, and Qurbani.

Please Consider Supporting Our Efforts:

  • A Month of Food Rations: $33/Family (8 People)

  • Door to Door Iftars: $1/Person

  • Eid Clothes for Children: $17/Child

Much gratitude for helping us reach 40,000+ poor people this Ramadan!

University Students from Chicago Pitch In to Sponsor Door-to-Door Iftars in the Northern Areas of Pakistan - Featuring Yusuf Foundation MCHCs

Dear HOPE Friends,

University Students from Chicago Pitch In to Sponsor Door-to-Door Iftars in the Northern Areas of Pakistan - Featuring Yusuf Foundation MCHCs

https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1KVktQy9zw/

This Ramadan, in a heartwarming gesture of support for the needy, a group of college students from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Depaul University, and College of Dupage banded together to form a collection for HOPE's Door-to-Door Iftars.  Altogether, they were able to raise enough funds to provide meals for underserved children and adults at all four of Yusuf Foundation's Maternal and Child Health Centers in the Northern Areas of Pakistan.

  • According to Unicef, Pakistan has the highest Infant Mortality Rate in the world - 1 in 22 infants are at risk for dying within a month of birth.

  • Similarly, Pakistan's Maternal Mortality Rate accounts for 28% of the global total - one woman passes away from pregnancy complications every 37 minutes.

  • Though these statistics are dire, there is a tremendous opportunity for intervention as 80% of infant deaths and 33% of maternal deaths in Pakistan are preventable.

Over the course of almost three decades, HOPE has been able to make tremendous strides with regards to mitigating the adversely high Maternal and Infant Mortality rates in Pakistan.  By working at a grassroots level in underserved communities and providing free access to healthcare to mothers and babies, HOPE has been diligently and resourcefully taking advantage of the statistically-backed windows of opportunities to save lives.

Most recently, our efforts have been catapulted by the tremendous generosity of Yusuf Foundation -  through Yusuf Foundation's backing, HOPE has been able to expand into the Northern Areas of Pakistan, remote village regions in which no health facilities previously existed for disadvantaged populations.

Over the course of the past three years, Yusuf Foundation has sponsored construction and operational costs of three MCHCs in the Northern Areas of Pakistan (Mansehra, KPK, Garhi Habibullah, KPK, and Muzaffargarh, Punjab) along with adopting a fourth MCHC in Azad Kashmir.  Altogether, these facilities provide 24/7 no-cost healthcare to 200,000 villagers annually, 70% of whom are women and children.

By providing prenatal, postnatal, and infant/child healthcare during critical times, HOPE/Yusuf Foundation's MCHCs have been able to impact regions in which mothers traditionally gave birth in their own homes with no assistance - often with precarious consequences such as hemorrhaging or other severe labor complications.  These MCHCs have had a transformative effect in their respective regions, especially with regards to enhancing Maternal and Infant health for these communities.

Featured in these pictures are the UIUC, Depaul, and COD students' contributions towards making a difference in the rugged terrain of the Northern Areas of Pakistan.

We would like to extend our appreciation to the Chicago students' for their initiative in making a difference this Ramadan.  The HOPE Team was so touched by their gesture that we chose to dedicate their gift to the regions impacted by Yusuf Foundation's life-saving efforts.

Procter & Gamble Celebrates 20 Years of Clean Water Efforts and Highlights HOPE Founder, Dr. Mubina Agboatwalla as a South Asia Clean Water Champion

Dear HOPE Friends,

Procter & Gamble Celebrates 20 Years of Clean Water Efforts and Highlights HOPE Founder, Dr. Mubina Agboatwalla as a South Asia Clean Water Champion

Even before HOPE's longstanding partner in clean water efforts, Procter & Gamble, introduced its Children's Safe Drinking Water (CSDW) initiative 20 years ago, HOPE Founder, Dr. Mubina Agboatwalla, had been advocating for clean water in Pakistan, especially with regards to underserved communities who are more vulnerable to adverse health outcomes.

As a change proponent for the socioeconomic welfare of downtrodden communities in Pakistan, Dr. Mubina partnered with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the early 2000s to conduct field studies and trials for improved health outcomes.  Working alongside CDC researchers, Dr. Mubina rigorously tested and documented the effectiveness and safety of P&G's Purifier sachets.  Her research was published in leading journals and used to provide the scientific foundation for P&G's CDSW Program.

Since then, P&G has joined hands with HOPE to provide over 50 million liters of P&G Purifier sachets to tens of thousands of children and families living in poverty throughout Pakistan.  HOPE has been the sole authorized distributor of P&G's Purifier sachets in Pakistan, both via established routine clean water efforts and urgent natural disasters such as the 2005 Kashmir Earthquake and 2022 Pakistan Floods.

HOPE's partnership with P&G during the ravishing 2022 Pakistan Flood Crisis was transformative as 1/3 of the country was underwater and 33 million people were impacted.  Polluted water is a breeding and transmission medium for various diseases such as malaria, diarrhea, and dengue fever, and the criticality of distributing clean water during natural disasters is a matter of saving lives.  During our Disaster Relief Efforts following the 2022 Pakistan Floods alone, HOPE distributed 21 million liters of Purifier sachets to thousands of families in need, thanks to our partnership with P&G.

As P&G celebrates 20 years of advancing clean water efforts through CSDW, we are humbled to take part in their journey and milestones.  Dr. Mubina's and HOPE's collaboration with P&G can be found here: https://csdw.org/partners/

Dr. Mubina expressed that "Clean water is more critical than ever," and she looks forward to helping the CSDW Program reach the 25-billion-liter milestone in 2025.

Much gratitude to P&G for recognizing the efforts of Dr. Mubina and HOPE in uplifting marginalized communities throughout Pakistan and promoting clean water efforts throughout the country.

Warm regards,

Pakistan Radio 105's Shireen Akhtar Features HOPE Physicians Dr. Rehana, Dr. Abida, and Dr. Shagufta for International Women's Day

Dear HOPE Friends,

Pakistan Radio 105's Shireen Akhtar Features HOPE Physicians Dr. Rehana, Dr. Abida, and Dr. Shagufta for International Women's Day

https://youtu.be/fzdqr6FHkaI

On March 4, 2025, Pakistan Radio 105 Host Shireen Akhtar interviewed Dr. Rehana Yasmeen and Dr. Shagufta Khan, both loyal HOPE physicians who have dedicated their careers to bringing healthcare to the most downtrodden urban slum neighborhoods in Karachi, Pakistan.  Unfortunately, Dr. Abida Raza was unable to attend this event due to emergency cataract surgery, however we wish to include her contributions as she is a vital component of our team.

In a recent podcast, Ms. Akhtar featured HOPE's very own Dr. Rehana and Dr. Shagufta as part of Radio 105's effort to celebrate the achievements of women.  In a male-dominated country such as Pakistan, the contributions of women can often be overlooked or diminished due to the biases of media narratives or cultural traditions.  And more often than not, opportunities for women to rise above and leave behind a fulfilling legacy are significantly hampered as compared to their male counterparts.

At HOPE, we are proud of the fact that our most dynamic leaders are women, and that the poverty alleviation work centers on uplifting women and children and recognizing their potential.  In fact, HOPE was founded in 1997 by Dr. Mubina Agboatwalla, then a medical student at DOW University in Karachi Pakistan.  28 years ago, what began as humble dream to bring healthcare to marginalized communities Pakistan has transformed into a nationwide movement encompassing a broad array of tried and true poverty alleviation avenues: Healthcare, Education, Vocational Training, Clean Water, Food Security, Disaster Relief, Ramadan Outreach, and Qurbani.

Amongst our cherished medical staff are Dr. Rehana Yaseen, Dr. Abida Raza, and Dr. Shagufta Khan.  For this interview, Dr. Shagufta filled in for Dr. Abida who was not able to attend due to emergency cataract surgery:

  • Dr. Rehana has been an invaluable physician with HOPE for the past 15 years.  As our supervising Head Obstetrician-Gynecologist, Dr. Rehana's expertise constitutes a critical component of our efforts to reduce Maternal and Infant Mortality within Pakistan.  Over the years, Dr. Rehana has been an active presence in HOPE's Hospitals and Maternal and Child Health Centers.  On a daily basis, she conducts prenatal visits, normal and cesarean deliveries, neonatal care, and life-saving surgeries for women experiencing severe labor complications.  Amongst her many distinctions, she performed HOPE's first laparoscopic surgery - a life-saving procedure for an 18 year old with a potentially cancerous ovarian cyst.

  • Equally so, Dr. Abida has been a pivotal force in HOPE's largest Hospital in Karachi.  As a Pediatrician and Administrator at HOPE's Zia Colony Hospital, Dr. Abida is responsible for managing and treating an assortment of medical emergencies that routinely come through Zia Colony's 24/7 facility.  These include women in labor, traffic accidents, respiratory cases, gastrointestinal cases, cardiac emergencies, and life-saving surgeries.  Patients often remark how Dr. Abida treats them with compassion and care and that their experience at HOPE feels like they are being taken care of as if they are part of the family.

  • Dr. Shagufta is HOPE Gurumandir's Hospital's Administrator, an accomplished physician with 42 years of experience.  As a senior physician, she oversees HOPE's Gurumandir Hospital and her expertise is women's care.  HOPE Gurumandir has a labor and delivery room, cesarean section facilities, 24 hour emergency unit, surgery facilities, and outpatient services.  Dr. Shagufta has dedicated many years towards managing patient care and treating various critical cases which come through Gurumandir Hospital.  She plays a vital role in ensuring the welfare of women who suffer complications during pregnancy and/or labor.

We are excited and humbled that Ms. Akhtar featured a couple of HOPE's formidable female forces to be featured on Radio 105's interview for International Women's Day.  The most heartwarming aspect of Dr. Rehana, Dr. Abida, and Dr. Shagufta's careers is that they have especially dedicated their expertise to helping those who have no voice.  By providing quality healthcare to the needy and treating them with dignity and respect, they are directly working on the ground to break the tenacious cycle of poverty.  HOPE is honored to have them as part of our loyal team which has banded together for decades to bring a vision to life.

We hope you will join us in commemorating the achievements of Dr. Rehana, Dr. Abida, and Dr. Shagufta along with Radio 105's, Ms. Akhtar.

Much gratitude to Radio 105 for their gracious appreciation of HOPE's efforts to help the needy.

Warm regards,

Our Heartfelt Prayers  for a Blessed Ramadan 2025 for You and Your Loved Ones

Dear HOPE Friends,

Our Heartfelt Prayers  for a Blessed Ramadan 2025 for You and Your Loved Ones

This year, the HOPE Team invites you to step into the magical world of charity and run towards the banquet of blessings God has spread out for you.

No matter how difficult our individual circumstances may be, it takes just a moment of awareness to realize that all of us are blessed in ways beyond our comprehension.  If we find ourselves feeling even just a breath of despair, we should quickly awaken from that slumber of heedlessness, that most low and despicable place, and make our pasture in the field of hope where we shall remain forever ~ Imam Ghazali (رحمة الله عليه).

Giving charity is a win-win, both the recipient and giver benefit, and arguably, the giver may benefit more as: Any good we do, it is for ourselves (Quran 17:7).

But how can one ensure that their donations are going towards those in need and being maximized and going towards the causes we intend (i.e., not being spent on administrative expenses or marketing)?  A bit of research and background homework is always a good idea - a 501(c)(3)'s IRS 990s are public record and one can easily distinguish between organizations which are operating in good faith and those which leave much to be desired.  Additionally, disparities often exist in the levels of impact, oftentimes it's the smaller and lesser known organizations which are producing results, albeit in a quiet and less pompous way.  What glitters is not always gold, and the same is true in the competitive world of nonprofits.

https://youtube.com/shorts/QI0putjiB_g?feature=share

This Ramadan we invite you to see the potential impact you can make with HOPE USA:

  • In 2024, we were blessed to be able to provide poverty alleviation services to 1,000,000 beneficiaries, 70% of whom were women and children.

  •  Our poverty alleviation model relies upon multiple avenues of support to the needy - we realize that poverty is complex and we employ a multi-pronged approach to combat it which includes Healthcare, Education, Vocational Training, Clean Water, Food Security, Disaster Relief, Ramadan Outreach, and Qurbani.

  •  In 2021, we were recognized by Pakistan President Arif Alvi for our poverty alleviation impact in Pakistan - we were 1 of just 2 organizations in Pakistan to receive this distinction.

  • As a volunteer-run organization, we are working hard to make sure that your donations are maximized and reaching the poor.  We are humbled to have an administrative/overhead rate of less than 3%, which is almost unheard of in the nonprofit realm.

During the month of Ramadan, we strive to go the extra mile to try to alleviate the plight of the needy, especially since charity is one of the most fundamental aspects of the month and so critical in Islam.

Our Zakat-Eligible Ramadan Outreach efforts for this year include the following:

  • For Just $33 You Can Sponsor Food Rations for a Family of 8 for One Month.

  • For Just $1 You Can Sponsor a Hot Meal Delivered to a Needy Person This Ramadan

Dr. Mubina Interviews Azad Kashmir MCHC Staff Member

Dear HOPE Friends,

Dr. Mubina Interviews Chakhama, Azad Kashmir MCHC Healthcare Worker ‍, Ms. Sumbul

During the HOPE Team's recent visit to the Northern Areas of Pakistan , HOPE Chairperson, Dr. Mubina spoke with various HOPE Team members with regards to their role in the disadvantaged communities that they serve. Amongst these was Lady Health Visitor (LHV), Ms. Sumbul, a trained medical professional ‍ who lives on-site at the Chakhama Maternal and Child Health Center in lodging provisions provided by the Azad Kashmir Department of Health.

Please copy and paste this url into your browser to view the interview on YouTube:

https://youtu.be/KjQiXnr7Ygk

HOPE's Chakhama, Azad Kashmir MCHC is one of six medical facilities HOPE has established in the mountainous and rugged terrain of the Northern Areas of Pakistan in order to provide timely and quality access to healthcare to needy populations. Although these facilities are primarily focused on reducing Maternal ‍ and Infant Mortality in the region, they play a vital role in providing healthcare to all members of the community.

Due to HOPE's established presence in the Azad Kashmir region, the Azad Kashmir Department of Health approached HOPE in May 2024 to operate and manage an 24/7 MCHC for marginalized communities within Chakhama, Azad Kashmir . HOPE's Chakhama MCHC is a joint collaboration conducted with the backing and support of the Azad Kashmir Department of Health.

Ms. Sumbul is an instrumental member of HOPE's medical staff ‍ at Chakhama MCHC . Together, she and her colleagues provide free/nominal cost healthcare to 15,000 needy people annually. Her duties include:

  • Maternal ‍ and prenatal exams
  • Assisting mothers in normal births
  • Pediatric care
  • Prescribing medication and administering immunizations
  • Administering IV drips for dehydration
  • Prescribing treatments for infertility
  • Breastfeeding consulting
  • Family planning ‍‍‍ services
  •

Ms. Sumbul's conversation with Dr. Mubina is captured in the accompanying video :

We are extremely grateful to Ms. Sumbul for the dedication, commitment, and passion she displays for her critical role in HOPE's Chakhama MCHC . Without a loyal and experienced team, we would not be able to carry out our responsibilities in the region.

Creating a tangible impact involves many steps along a long chain which begins with our supporters. Thank you to all our dedicated donors for helping pave the way for change in underserved regions throughout Pakistan . We are most appreciative of the changes that you have sparked .

Dr. Mubina Interviews Azad Kashmir Community Leader/Motivator, Mr. Fazil

Dear HOPE Friends,

Dr. Mubina Interviews Azad Kashmir Community Leader/Motivator, Mr. Fazil

In HOPE Team's recent trip to the Northern Areas , HOPE Pakistan Chairperson, Dr. Mubina interviewed community figure/leader/motivator, Mr. Fazil, about the changes he has personally witnessed since HOPE introduced Health and Education services to the underserved populations in Azad Kashmir .

This conversation has been captured in the accompanying video:

https://youtu.be/TZEjS_zGDzg

Main Takeaways:

  • HOPE introduced Education and Healthcare to the Azad Kashmir region in 2014. Prior to this, the impoverished village populations did not have access to either quality Healthcare or Education and as a result, illiteracy and poor health (especially high Maternal and Infant Mortality) abounded in the region.

  • In remote regions such as Azad Kashmir , the closest government-sponsored facilities for the poor are located in the main town (often at distances over two hours away) which itself becomes a significant barrier to accessing timely care, especially in health emergencies . Similarly, the poor road and weather conditions affect villagers on a daily basis because the closest schools are located in the main districts and children cannot traverse such distances safely on a routine basis.

  • By establishing six Maternal and Child Health Centers in the Northern Areas of Pakistan alone, HOPE has been able to provide quality healthcare to underserved village populations, especially with regards to the curtailing the burgeoning Maternal and Infant Mortality Rates. Our MCHC facilities are equipped with birthing provisions so that mothers ‍ can deliver their children into the world in a safe environment. Most of our MCHCs in the Northern Areas are operating 24/7 and our impact exceeds 200,000 villagers per year.

  • With regards to education in the Northern Areas , HOPE has revived the underutilized concept of Home Schools in Pakistan , in which children can access the regularity and routine of a proper school setting right within their own villages . Our Home School network in Azad Kashmir spans approximately 40 schools and benefits 2,000 disadvantaged children, 80 percent of whom are girls who face tougher barriers to accessing education .

We wish to express our gratitude to Mr. Fazil for his gracious acknowledgment of HOPE's efforts and for detailing the impact that he has personally witnessed over the past 10 years. We are extremely appreciative of his role in the community in encouraging literacy and progress in terms of saving lives and changing generations .

Of course this could not be possible without the support of God and our dedicated donors whose contributions make this possible. Our entire HOPE team prays that your kind charity helps to alleviate any and all hardships that you may be facing.

Warm regards,

Dr. Mubina Interviews HOPE's Azad Kashmir MCHC and Home School Coordinators - Ms. Sanjeeda and Ms. Naila

Dear HOPE Friends,

Dr. Mubina Interviews HOPE's Azad Kashmir MCHC and Home School Coordinators - Ms. Sanjeeda and Ms. Naila

https://youtu.be/4qvztTEoQJM

During the HOPE Team's recent trip to the Northern Areas , HOPE Pakistan Chairperson, Dr. Mubina interviewed HOPE's Azad Kashmir Maternal and Child ‍ Health Center Coordinator, Ms. Sanjeeda, as well as HOPE's Azad Kashmir Home School Coordinator, Ms. Naila.

The accompanying video captures the conversation.

Main Takeaways:

  • HOPE's Azad Kashmir MCHCs and Home Schools are catering specifically to underserved communities that reside in the remote mountaintops of Azad Kashmir . The poverty rates in these areas are quite high and HOPE is meeting basic needs in terms of healthcare and education for these disadvantaged communities.

  • Due to the remoteness of the regions, government-sponsored healthcare services for the poor are not within an accessible distance, and most often the quality of government services are sub-par. HOPE fills this gap by being the only non-governmental organization within the region which is providing quality services to economically struggling families.

  • Specifically with regards to healthcare , HOPE's MCHC's in the Azad Kashmir region (Langarpura, Chakhama, Chikaar, and Koona) are actively working to reduce the adversely high Maternal and Infant ‍Mortality rates in the AJK area. Our four AJK health facilities provide free/nominal cost healthcare to a total of 80,000 mothers and children annually.

  • The remoteness and rough terrain along with political instability and harsh weather pose as a few of several barriers to education that children in Azad Kashmir face. HOPE's Home School network has addressed these challenges to bring education to over 2,000 children living in these remote mountain regions.

We are extremely grateful to Ms. Sanjeeda and Ms. Naila for being impactful role models and trustworthy members of the communities we serve. The critical role our HOPE Field team plays in our efforts to bring about positive changes in disadvantaged and underserved regions cannot be overstated. The Field Team works closely with our beneficiaries to pave the way for dynamic change through concerted grassroots efforts.

We are deeply grateful to all our supporters whose loyalty and dedication are the foundation for the tens of thousands of lives we have touched in Azad Kashmir as well as throughout Pakistan.

Warm regards,

HOPE Joins Forces with Revive Environment and GlobalGiving to Bring Low-Cost, Sustainable Wood Stoves to 480,000 Flood Affectees in Pakistan Following the 2022 Flood Crisis

Whether it’s money, the environment, expertise, or time, the resources at our disposal are undoubtedly the most precious assets that we have.  This is why we are thrilled to share with you the debut of our latest project, an innovative idea which is a win-win-win involving multiple fronts - protecting and saving our earth by reducing the impact of carbon emissions, as well as improving the lives of a staggering almost half a million underserved people, both from a time, money, health, and poverty alleviation ‍ perspective.

The Pakistan Flood Crisis of 2022 was a huge environmental disaster, but it is a trend that highlights the impact climate change is having upon the world at large.  The 2022 floods were not an isolated incident, but rather a shift that has been emerging for decades.  Climate scientists estimate that the devastation of the 2022 Floods in Pakistan (in which of the country was technically under water) was 50% worse due to the effects of global warming.

Due to their location, many countries surrounding the Indian Ocean are more susceptible to the impacts of climate change.  Pakistan contributes less than 1% of global greenhouse gas emissions, yet due to its location, it is one of the countries most vulnerable to effects of global warming.  Sadly, when a country is already grappling with poverty ‍, the brunt of damages often falls heavily upon the most disadvantaged fragments of society.

The visionary behind this project is Mr. Zia Khaleeli, an Oxford-educated entrepreneur, philanthropist, and founder of multiple organizations working towards green solutions such as Revive Environment.  He currently serves as the Chairman of the Environment and Energy Commission for the International Chamber of Commerce in Pakistan , and has an extensive array of both field and technical expertise which has positioned him to be a leading voice of change in sustainable and innovative solutions for Pakistan.

In a first of its kind initiative for Pakistan, Mr. Khaleeli reached out to HOPE to launch and distribute a sustainable and environment-friendly solution to the energy crisis that permeates all aspects of daily life for tens of thousands of people living in poverty.  HOPE will fulfill the logistical distribution and training for this project through the generosity of a Long-Term Flood Rehabilitation grant awarded by GlobalGiving.

Background:

The background of this project dives into daily life in poor communities in Pakistan such as Sujawal and Badin.  These two districts comprise of underserved, congested slum areas in Sindh which lie approximately an hour away from Karachi.  In total, over a million people live in both of these poverty-stricken cities and these communities experienced widespread flooding and devastation during the 2022 Flood Crisis.

The HOPE Pakistan Team conducted a four-month field assessment study amongst 200 families ‍‍‍ in Sujawal to examine the wood-burning stoves that have been a way of life for many for decades due to the lack of gas in rural areas.

Here are Our Findings:

  • Since absolutely no gas is available in rural areas, poverty-stricken families rely entirely upon collecting wood or cow dung to use as fuel for cooking.

  • Large amounts of wood collected translate to a poor use of both time and income for families already struggling to make ends meet.

  • Utilizing traditional wood burning stoves contributes heavily to respiratory illnesses such as asthma, bronchitis, and pneumonia.  For families who are already struggling with poverty ‍ and lack of access to healthcare , this is a practice which lowers their quality of life even more.
  • Lastly, traditional wood stoves contribute to pollution - in fact, globally we have 2.3 billion people who rely on traditional stoves and lack access to clean cooking.  Cooking emissions worldwide are, believe it or not, about the same as the aviation industry.
  •

Here is Our Plan of Action:

  • 60,000 Underserved Families ‍‍‍ (480,000 Beneficiaries Total) in Sujawal and Badin will receive newly designed, portable, energy-efficient wood stoves.  These stoves are a green innovation created by Revive Environment in order to address the reliance upon high volumes of wood or cow dung for fuel in order to cook , and subsequently provide a solution to reduce carbon emissions produced by traditional cooking methods.  Upon official launch of this project, we plan to distribute 2,500 stoves per month to reach 60,000 families over the course of two years.

  • HOPE will execute the logistical aspects of this project - delivering the stoves to 60,000 ‍‍‍ families and providing them with proper training to use them  - via our Long-Term Flood Relief Grant from GlobalGiving.  Revive Environment has also graciously offered to maintain the stoves during that timeframe, thereby assuring that any technical issues (since this is a prototype in Pakistan ) that arise are addressed and remedied.

These stoves will serve as practical, environmentally-friendly, low-cost solution to the severe scarcity of gas (and consequential heavy dependence upon wood as an energy source) which has become a daily part of life for many poor families.

Now as mentioned earlier, this project is remarkable in both its scope, the vast number of beneficiaries, as well as the broad array of long-term benefits.

Long-Term Benefits of the Improved Cookstove Project:

  • Save villagers money by minimizing the fuelwood they need to purchase in order to cook.

  • Reduce the amount of time both adults and children in poor communities expend in order to gather and collect fuelwood , thus allowing adults to seek proper jobs ‍ to improve their financial situation, and enable children to attend school.

  • Empower women in particular by saving them time thus, allowing them to pursue literacy and vocational training.  In rural areas in Pakistan, only 1 in 3 women are able to read and write.

  • The factory to manufacture these stoves has been built locally in Karachi , Pakistan by Mr. Khaleeli in an effort to create jobs for these villagers .

  • Health-wise, the stoves emit very little smoke, thus reducing respiratory diseases which arise from traditional cooking stoves .

  • The stoves are portable and can be used indoors or outdoors, thus maximizing their practicality.

  • Revive Environment’s stoves will reduce the consumption of fuelwood by 40% to 50%, thus lowering our carbon footprint and minimizing the deforestation of local trees .

Concluding Thoughts:

This project is a milestone and the first of its kind in energy efficient solutions for wood stoves in Pakistan and we are humbled to have been selected by Mr. Khaleeli for this noble initiative.  We recognize that trust is an essential component in executing large-scale implementations and we are blessed to have been the NGO of his choice for this endeavor.  Revive Environment's venture will not only provide an energy-efficient solution to cooking for tens of thousands of families ‍‍‍ living in poverty, it comes with the rare combination of a win-win-win on all fronts.

We are grateful to GlobalGiving for their support of our work, especially with regards to 2022 Pakistan Flood Crisis.  Global-Giving's Long-Term Pakistan Flood Crisis grant came at the perfect time, thus ensuring that we will be able to provide the logistical resources and expertise to execute this project to 60,000 underserved families ‍‍‍  who were further debilitated by the 2022 Floods.  Over several years, we have personally built a rapport with GlobalGiving's Disaster Response ‍ Team and their interest, dedication, and excitement at silver lining moments amidst formidable challenges is something to be admired and appreciated.

All praise ultimately goes back to God, and we are blessed to have prestigious organizations such as Revive Environment and GlobalGiving championing our work as well as the support of so many special individual supporters.  Thank you for sharing these milestone moments for us and take care.

Warm regards,

28 Years of Humanitarian Efforts - Historical Honors Awarded to HOPE by the Pakistan Government

Dear HOPE Friends,

28 Years of Humanitarian Efforts - Historical Honors Awarded to HOPE by the Pakistan Government

As a charitable organization celebrating 28 years of poverty alleviation efforts in Pakistan this year, we're thrilled that the Government of Pakistan has recognized and lauded our work throughout our history .

A Few Special Highlights in Our 28 Year Chronicles Include:

  • February 2012 - HOPE Chairperson, Dr. Mubina Agboatwalla received a letter of appreciation on behalf of HOPE from former Chief Minister of Punjab for our Disaster Relief efforts following flooding/monsoons in which we constructed Model Villages using renewable resources such as solar power.

  • July 2014 - Dr. Mubina Agboatwalla received a follow-up thank you memorandum from former Minister of Punjab, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, for HOPE's Ramadan outreach efforts for Internally Displaced Persons in Punjab.

  • September 2021 - Dr. Mubina Agboatwalla traveled to Islamabad to accept an award by Pakistan President Arif Alvi for 25 years of poverty alleviation efforts throughout Pakistan - we were 1 of only 2 organizations to receive this prestigious honor.

In developing countries such as Pakistan , the role of nonprofit organizations (NGOs) plays a significant role in providing relief to needy people who often cannot afford basic services such as Healthcare and Education in order to thrive. The role of a reputable and established NGO becomes even more critical when services provided for underserved communities by the government are lacking in either quality, quantity, accessibility, or affordability.

Having the support of the government sector is essential when an organization is making strides towards reducing poverty ‍ and improving the living conditions of impoverished communities. This recognition and approval of the government sector becomes a vital component in a multi-pronged plan to break the tenacious cycle of generational poverty at a grassroots level.

We're jubilant about celebrating 28 years of poverty alleviation work in Pakistan this year! All praise is owed to God and to our loyal supporters for this success and for being there with us every step of the way.

Warm regards,

HOPE Debuts New Home School for an Additional 50 Underserved Children in Azad Kashmir

Dear HOPE Friends,

HOPE Debuts New Home School ? for an Additional 50 Underserved Children in Azad Kashmir ?️

On September 28th, 2024, with the official support of the Azad Kashmir ?️ Government, we debuted a new Home School ? situated in the mountaintops of a remote village ? in Pakistan ?? known as Bani Langrial.  HOPE's Bani Langrial Home School is a welcome addition to our existing network of 40 Home Schools scattered throughout the high altitude regions of Azad Kashmir ?️ which cater to a total of 2,000 disadvantaged students ??‍?.

We are especially honored that the Azad Kashmir District Officers of Education ? and Healthcare ? both made it a priority to attend and officiate the launch of HOPE's Home School which will serve 50 young, underprivileged students ??‍?.  While this Home School will be operated and funded by HOPE, we are abundantly grateful ? to have embarked on this endeavor for the children of Bani Langrial with the blessing and cooperation of the Azad Kashmir ?️ Government.

HOPE's Home School in Bani Langrial ?️ will cater specifically to children under the age of 10 years.  This region is so steeped in poverty, remote, and difficult to traverse that for generations, parents were not able physically transport their children to the nearest school on a regular basis.  Unfortunately, the default then became that the children of Bani Langrial would not attend school ? until they were a bit older and able to walk to and from the premises safely on their own.  Therefore, their opportunity to attain a solid education ? was stifled at the onset and the cycle of poverty ❤️‍? was inevitably reinforced and carried into the future.  The establishment of a Home School for young children within their village is a proactive measure to circumvent this obstacle and bring education ?right to their doorsteps.

Throughout underserved regions of Pakistan ??, our education facilities ? are comprised of 70% female students, but in even more difficult to access areas such as Azad Kashmir ?️, this percentage increases to 80% as the barriers for girls attaining an education rise substantially.

As always, our appreciation ? to our gracious donors  whose trust and support makes it possible to initiate palpable differences in the lives of thousands ✨.

Warm regards,

True Narration of the Life of a Pregnant Mother Saved

Dear HOPE Friends,

True Narration of the Life ? of a Pregnant Mother ?? Saved ??‍♀️ by Dr. Mubina Agboatwalla

https://youtu.be/xF0_wWw4SbQ?feature=shared

Here's a personal narration ? by HOPE Pakistan Founder, Dr. Mubina Agboatwalla in which she recounts a perilous night's events in January 2024.  This life-saving event occurred during the HOPE Pakistan Team's regular trips to Azad Kashmir ?️ and the Northern Areas ⛰️ of Pakistan ??.

Some Background:

Over the years we've been slowly working to improve access to healthcare ? in rural ? and remote areas of Pakistan ?? as well as underserved slums ?.  Due to poverty ❤️‍? rates of approximately 25 to 40%, inadequate and sub-par healthcare ? (along with rising illiteracy ?) still remains the most predominant force underlying the vitality of Pakistan ?? as a whole.

In particular, we have taken active steps to reduce Pakistan's Maternal ??and Infant ? Mortality rates.  We've tackled the window of opportunity that has presented itself in which research-backed statistics prove that up to 33% of Maternal ??deaths and 80% of Infant ?? deaths in Pakistan ?? are preventable.

Along the way, we have been extremely blessed ✨ to have the support of thousands ? who have allowed us to reach underserved areas and work towards making a difference.  True statistical change ? occurs over a period of years and decades - it's only then that we can step away and examine the overall impact our efforts have had on the landscape of poverty ❤️‍? as a whole.  However, on an everyday basis, we are blessed ? to be making a tangible impact in the lives of many.  We would like to share some of those stories in order to bring these people to life and illustrate the impact of sincere gestures and how planting a seed ? can have massive ramifications.

Inspiration and Acknowledgment:

Just as we are working within the windows ? of opportunity ✨_that present themselves to us, we've been blessed ? to have the support of donors and organizations who have recognized these windows ? of opportunity ✨ and took action to work with our team.  One of the most transformative impacts has come from Yusuf Foundation.

Yusuf Foundation was inspired by a dream ✨ to bring healthcare ? to rural areas ? in Pakistan ??, driven by a personal account of one member of the family and knowing how much her own mother ??‍? struggled due to giving birth in her own home ?.  This dream ✨ sparked the fuel for Yusuf Foundation and in 2021, Yusuf Foundation put their trust in us to construct three Maternal and Child Healthcare Centers ? in the Northern Areas ⛰️ of Pakistan ??.

Over the next year and a half ?, we worked to launch these health centers ?, and by the Grace of God, they have become larger than life, each currently serving over 30,000 villagers ? per year.  In the past six months, we expanded the centers, including our Azad Kashmir one (constructed largely by Darul Sadaqa786 and private donors) to 12 hour per day operations.  By 2025, Yusuf Foundation has generously pledged to have these centers operating almost as mini-hospitals and open for services 24 hours per day.  By then, we expect the capacity to double, and the in-patient capacity to increase ten-fold ?.  By 2025, we anticipate reaching 200,000 patients in all four facilities ?.

Dr. Mubina's narrative is a testament to the power of inspiration ✨and good intentions ?.  Yusuf Foundation's MCHC's ? have become larger than life and a central aspect to these villages ?.  Just in the next trip after the establishment of the Mansehra Center, Dr. Mubina was presented with a letter ? signed by the village elders in which appreciation and gratitude ?? were expressed along with the desire for longer hours.

? These communities were in such dire need of access to affordable and quality medical care ? that these MCHCs ? are becoming larger than life and taking on an even greater role to the communities than we ever anticipated.

? The mere presence of a medical facility in these areas has given hope to thousands of villagers who could not access healthcare due to cost and/or distance.“It was a dark night ? and I was sleeping ? in the Maternal & Child Health Center ? in a remote village ? around 20 miles away from Mansehra, KPK ⛰️, Pakistan ??.

Here is Dr. Mubina's Narration:

"It was a dark night ?.  Around 2:00/2:30 am, we were awakened by a knock at the door ?.  A young man ??‍♂️ walked in, carrying in his arms an approximately 25 year old woman ??.  Behind him was his mother in law.

They came in, the woman was completely collapsed, and she was hardly breathing ?.  In fact, her breathing was very shallow.

It was an emergency ?.  I tried to revive the woman, but she was not responding.  She was completely collapsed and unconscious ❤️‍?.

I tried passing an IV, but her veins were collapsed.  I could not feel her pulse, nor was her blood pressure? measurable.

The [mother in law] starting crying ? and me and my staff started preparing emergency ?measures.  We gave her some oxygen ?.  Since it was difficult to find the vein, I immediately passed a nasogastric tube.

She had been vomiting at home and was a few months pregnant ??.  Her veins started becoming visible and we passed an IV.  Once the IV was passed, we gave her fluids ? very fast.

After passing the nasogastric tube, we started giving her oral rehydration fluids ?, step by step.  In half an hour ?, her dehydration decreased, she got a bit better, and started responding.

And half an hour ? after that, she started coming back and started responding a bit.  The nearest hospital ? from here was around 1 to 1.5 hours away.

The woman would have collapsed and died, had first-aid ? treatment not been given to her.  Once she was revived, then she started responding a bit.  We then sent her in an ambulance ? to the nearest tertiary care hospital ?.”

Truly making a dent in the landscape of poverty ❤️‍? is not an easy feat and we're blessed that with hard work and perseverance ✨, we've been able to take advantage of windows ? of opportunity ✨ as they present themselves.  Transformational moments arise when energies and intentions ✨ come together and we are blessed ?to have the backing of an organization as inspiring as Yusuf Foundation.

Warm regards,

HOPE Team Delivers Biryani to 1,500 Across Pakistan

Dear HOPE Friends,

HOPE Team Delivers Biryani 🥘 to 1,500 Needy People Across Pakistan 🇵🇰

As part of our efforts towards reducing hunger 😩 and malnutrition 🚫 in Pakistan 🇵🇰, the HOPE field team regularly distributes cooked food 🍱to constituents in various underserved neighborhoods and villages 🛖 throughout the country. Last week, we ramped up our outreach and served over 1,500 packets of biryani 🥘 to all areas in which we operate in Pakistan 🇵🇰.

Below is a collage representing our biryani distribution which took place between July 12 and July 15, 2024. Areas reached included our MCHCs in the Northern Areas 🏔️ (Garhi Habibullah and Mansehra, KPK along with Langarpura, Azad Kashmir) disadvantaged slum areas in Karachi 🌆, Sindh (Zia Colony and 100 Quarters), large poor districts 🏙️ outside of Karachi, Sindh (Thatta and Sujawal), and remote village 🛖 regions within Sindh (Link Road in Ghaggar).

Food security 😋 is a growing need in Pakistan 🇵🇰 and around the world 🌍, especially after the Covid-19 😷 pandemic triggered excessive inflation 📈 across many countries. In Pakistan 🇵🇰, the aftermath of the 2022 Flood Crisis 🌊 and political instability have further exacerbated the need to fight hunger 😩 amidst a rising 📊 poor population. In an effort to assuage the pressing situation, HOPE has incorporated two main ways by which we are directly combatting hunger in Pakistan 🇵🇰:

🔶 Monthly Food Rations Distribution - Just $33 provides dry food rations 🍱 for a family of 8 for one month

🔶 Cooked Food Distribution - Just $1 sponsors a hot meal of biryani 🥘 delivered to a Zakat-eligible person

Our Food Rations 🍱 program is a donor-initiated idea which started off as a humble project to provide food essentials 🍱 to 22 of our most needy families within the Karachi 🌆 metropolitan area and has catapulted ⚡ to become an established staple in our poverty alleviation portfolio. Alongside with the regular monthly distribution of food rations 🍱, we reinforce these food security efforts by serving cooked food such as biryani 🥘 on various occasions throughout the year 📆 .

HOPE Team Ends 2023 and Kicks Off 2024 in Kashmir and KPK

HOPE On-Ground Team Ends 2023 🏁 and Kicks off 🚀 2024 in Kashmir 🏔️ & KPK 🛖:

3,000+ Underserved Women 🧕🏻and Children 🧒🏻 Receive Food 🥘, Medical Aid 🩺, Winter Gear 🧥, School Supplies 🎒, Blankets

Dear HOPE Friends,

The On-Ground HOPE Team wrapped up 2023 with a fruitful trip to oversee our Health 🏥, Education 🏫, and Vocational Training 🧵facilities in the Northern Areas of Pakistan 🇵🇰, namely Azad Kashmir 🏔️ and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 🛖.

Over 3,000 Underserved Women 🧕🏻 and Children 🧒🏻 Received Biryani 🥘, Warm Clothing 🧥, Blankets 🛌🏻 , Medical Aid 🩺, Vocational Training 🧵, and Participated in Community-Building Exercises such as School Ceremonies 🎓.

This trip was quite extensive in nature and covered a wide geographical scope 🌏 which encompasses our recently-expanded network to serve the poor.

Currently, HOPE's Framework for Poverty Alleviation in the Northern Areas 🏔️of Pakistan 🇵🇰 Includes:

     🔶 35 Home Schools 📚serving 2,000 Students 👩🏻‍🎓, 80% of whom are underprivileged girls

🔶 5 Maternal 🧕🏻& Child 🧒🏻 Health Centers 🏥 (all equipped to handle births) which serve a total of 90,000 Villagers 🛖 annually

🔶 2 Vocational Training Centers (set up within MCHC grounds) which provide income-generating skills 🧵to 500 Women annually

The HOPE Team met with and interacted 🤝🏼with thousands of members of the communities from Mansehra, KPK to Azad Kashmir 🏔️.

🔶 Children 🧒🏻 performed for the community on stage, were gifted new backpacks 🎒 and school supplies 📝, and received accolades 🏆 for their accomplishments.

🔶 Warm winter gear 🧥, food 🥘, and blankets 🛌🏻 were distributed to villagers 🛖.

🔶 Young adults in our Vocational Centers were lauded 👏🏼 for their hard work 🧶 and the skills they had acquired.

Our new Medical Facilities 🏥in KPK 🛖which are sponsored by Yusuf Foundation (Garhi Habibullah and Mansehra) were visited by Dr. Mubina Agboatwalla, along with our Azad Kashmir 🏔️ MCHC (sponsored by Darul Sadaqa and private donors). During this visit particularly, the HOPE Team witnessed firsthand the positive impact 📈 these facilities are having upon the surrounding communities, and especially the life-saving ⛑️ role they have taken on:

🔶 These communities were in such dire need of access to affordable and quality medical care that these MCHCs are becoming larger than life and taking on an even greater role to the communities than we ever anticipated.

🔶 The mere presence of a medical facility in these areas has given hope to thousands of villagers who could not access healthcare due to cost and/or distance.

🔶 In this visit, we equipped all MCHCs with infant warmers and ultrasound machines to meet the needs of villagers.

🔶 With funding, we are also seeking to furnish each with incubators to handle complex cases.

Overall, we are thrilled to report that due to the generosity 🌹of our supporters and organizations such as Yusuf Foundation and Darul Sadaqa786, we are seeing precious lives saved in our medical clinics 🏥 and children flourishing in our schools 🏫. This trip proved to be so eventful in nature that we will be featuring a couple of stories in the near future about the tangible impact that has been through the generosity of our donors 💝.

Warm Regards,

First Baby is Born Safely at Our MCHC in Azad Kashmir!

Dear HOPE Friends,

This weekend we achieved a new milestone 🏆 in our fight to reduce Maternal 👩🏻‍🍼 and Infant 👶🏼 Mortality in Pakistan 🇵🇰 - the first delivery of a baby from our Maternal and Child Health Center network took place at our MCHC in Langarpura, Azad Kashmir 🏔️!

This moment ushers in what we hope to be the beginning of a new era in the Northern Areas of Pakistan. In these remote regions, the terrain is mountainous🏔️ and difficult to traverse and healthcare facilities 🏥 are few and far between. Even if such facilities do exist, they are often not well-equipped and poor people simply cannot afford them . It is standard practice that poor mothers labor and deliver their children in their own homes.

Unfortunately, the lack 🚫 of accessible healthcare facilities 🏥 for poor communities has led to adversely high Maternal 👩🏻‍🍼 and Infant 👶🏼 Mortality rates in Pakistan 🇵🇰, especially in cases where there are labor complications or medical intervention 🩺 is needed. MMR and IMR rates are higher in remote and rural areas such as Northern Pakistan 🏔️ versus urban metropolitan 🏙️ areas.

In Pakistan 🇵🇰, 33% of maternal 👩🏻‍🍼 deaths and 80% of infant 👶🏼 deaths are preventable!

HOPE has been working diligently to mitigate MMR and IMR in Pakistan 🇵🇰 by providing free/nominal cost quality prenatal 🤰🏻 and infant 🐣 care to underserved communities:

🔷 In urban slum areas of Karachi, we operate four Hospitals 🏥 in which a total of 15,000 children are born safely each year.

🔷 In the Northern Areas of Pakistan 🏔️, we have gone a step further and have equipped three new MCHCs in those regions (Langarpura, Garhi Habibullah, Mansehra) with birthing provisions, essentially making them mini-hospitals. This measure is a proactive step ✅ to ensure safe deliveries for both mothers 👩🏻‍🍼 and children 🧒🏻 in those communities.

We are grateful 💖 to our all our generous supporters who have made regular contributions towards the construction 🚜 of these facilities along with ensuring their smooth operations.

We would especially like to thank Darul Sadaqa786 and private donors for sponsoring the bulk of the construction 🔨 of our Langarpura, Azad Kashmir MCHC. Special gratitude to Yusuf Foundation for funding the construction 🚜 and operations for both Garhi Habibullah, KPK and Mansehra, KPK. We could not have done this without your support!

If you would like to take part in Saving Maternal and Infant Lives in Pakistan, please donate to our Global Giving campaign. Currently, all donations to HOPE's Save Maternal and Infant Lives campaign on Global Giving are matched at 50 percent!

Below, please find an array of services your donation can sponsor:

🔷 $10: Support 3 Prenatal Visits for a Pregnant Mother 👩🏻‍🍼

🔷 $20: Support the Cost of 2 Ultrasounds 🚼

🔷 $25: Pay for Fetal Heartbeat Monitoring 🫀

🔷 $50: Sponsor a Blood Transfusion 🏥 for a Mother

🔷 $75: Support Phototherapy for a Jaundiced Infant 👶🏼

🔷 $100: Sponsor a Normal Birth 🐣 at One of Our Hospitals

🔷 $200: Pay for a Cesarean Birth 🐥 at One of Our Hospitals

🌹 Thank you to all our supporters for celebrating these milestones with us as we gradually chip away at poverty barriers in Pakistan!

Darul Sadaqa786 More Than Doubles HOPE USA's Goal of Pakistan Flood Relief House Construction - a Total of 59 Houses Built For Flood Affectee Families

Darul Sadaqa786 More Than Doubles 📈 HOPE USA's Initial Goal of Pakistan Flood Relief House Construction - a Total of 59 Houses 🏚️ Built For Flood Affectee 🌊 Families

Please watch our House Reconstruction video below:

https://youtu.be/ayov-fK3VRo

Over the course of 2022 and early 2023, fundraising powerhouse, Darul Sadaqa786, stealthily worked behind the scenes to surprise HOPE USA with a magnanimous grant to fund a total of 51 houses 🏚️ for victims of the 2022 Pakistan Flood 🌊 Crisis.

Overall, this grand gesture more than doubles 📊 HOPE USA's initial target of 25 houses 🏚️, and combined with private donations, a total of 59 houses 🏚️ have been donated to victims of disastrous flooding 🌊 that began in August 2022. Overall, almost 500 needy people have received housing assistance from HOPE's Flood Relief House Reconstruction Project.

HOPE's field team ⛑️ conducted extensive assessments to determine the most needy families in flood-ravaged 🌊 areas of Sindh, Pakistan who would receive housing 🏚️. Special consideration was given to those who had lost all their meager belongings in the floods, the elderly 👵🏽, orphans 👩🏻‍🤝‍👩🏽, and disabled people ♿ . All of our beneficiaries were already living below the poverty line prior to this disaster and plunged into even more dire straits following the floods.

HOPE USA has been a frontrunner 🏃🏻‍♀️ in providing aid to victims of the 2022 Pakistan Flood Crisis that left one-third of the country under water for half of 2022. In total thus far we have provided aid to over 115,000 victims of this national disaster. Our relief spanned all forms: Cooked Food 🥘, Food Rations 🍱 , Clean Water 💧, Medical Relief 🚑 , Temporary Shelter 🛖 , Mosquito Nets 🦟 , Clothing 👕 , Slippers 🩴 , Bedding 🛏️ , and Permanent Housing 🏚️ and included all areas in Pakistan which were in dire need of aid.

The video accompanying this update speaks volumes for the gratitude both the recipients of the houses 🏚️ exuded along with the HOPE Team towards Darul Sadaqa786 for entrusting us with this noble endeavor. Providing a house for a family is the beginning of creating a home in which an atmosphere of love 💖 and security 🗝️ can flourish, both critical for long-term psychosocial breakthroughs in poverty alleviation.

Darul Sadaqa786 was founded by Sister Iffath Hasan, a self-taught Hafizah 📖 of the Quran who, along with managing this nonprofit, conducts various free Islamic 🕌 classes ranging from Arabic grammar to Character Building for women. She is also the author of Quranic Arabic Made Easy, a best-selling Quranic Arabic grammar book 📔 which has received accolades for its organization and teaching methodology.

Darul Sadaqa786 has been a long-standing and regular behind the scenes supporter of all of HOPE's various poverty alleviation initiatives ranging from Healthcare 🏥 to Education 🏫 to Vocational Training 💻 to Clean Water💧 to Ramadan Activities ☪️ to Qurbani 🕋 to Disaster Relief 🚑.

HOPE is extremely grateful to have earned Darul Sadaqa786's trust and support for several years and are immensely appreciative of their never-ending generosity. We are especially appreciative to Darul Sadaqa786 for sponsoring the majority of HOPE's Covid-19 Life-Saving Equipment acquisition 🔬 for Hospitals, the construction of our Azad Kashmir Maternal & Child Health Center 🏥 , and funding the vast majority of HOPE's Pakistan Flood Crisis Housing Project 🏘️.

The HOPE Team is imbued with sincere appreciation and prayers 💝 to Sister Iffath Hasan and Darul Sadaqa786 for this collaborative effort which has provided housing to over 500 extremely needy individuals. We hope that the accompanying reel 🎥 will speak for itself in terms of the tremendous impact that has already had on those who have very little!

Due to the extensive nature of the 2022 Pakistan Flood Crisis, HOPE will remain an active force in long-term rehabilitative efforts for victims. You may still contribute towards a new house 🏚️ for a family (just $1,500, both Zakat-Eligible and a Sadaqa Jaariayah effort) or any other relief efforts by the following:

🔷 LaunchGood Campaign: https://www.launchgood.com/HOPEUSAKarachiFlood

Harsh Winter Conditions 10,000 Feet Above Ground in Azad Kashmir Impede Access to HOPE's Home School and MCHC

Dear HOPE Friends,

Last week, excessive snowfall in Azad Kashmir caused an array of issues which ultimately blocked access to roads leading to HOPE's Home School and Maternal and Child Health Center located in Chinnari, Azad Kashmir.

Chinnari is a village located at a height of 10,000 feet above ground in the remote mountaintops of Azad Kashmir.  HOPE operates an MCHC which treats 100 women and children per day along with a Home School serving 200 students daily in Chinnari.

Unfortunately, as with many treacherous areas in Kashmir, roads are not properly constructed and severe weather conditions often hinder access to health and education facilities which provide basic amenities to poor populations.  This is exactly the current situation as we await warmer temperatures so that the local community of 30,000 can regain access to these resources.

Prior to HOPE's MCHC becoming an established facility in Chinnari, the local community would travel three hours to access the nearest government-operated hospital.  Expectant mothers and even children would often pass away during the journey.  Additionally, the quality of care at government facilities established for the poor is often subpar, causing more problems than solutions.

By establishing an MCHC in Chinnari, HOPE has been able to provide free/nominal cost healthcare services to 20,000 women and children annually and prevent unnecessary death due to lack of access to timely medical care.

Similarly, the closest government school for Zakat-eligible populations in Chinnari is two hours away and parents would hesitate to send their children to traverse such long distances in unknown terrain; girls would inevitably bear the brunt of this disadvantage as their barriers to accessing education were greater than their male counterparts.

By establishing a Home School in this remote community, HOPE has been able to provide a quality education to 200 students per year, 80 percent of whom are girls who would otherwise be left behind.  Since education is the cornerstone of freedom from poverty, HOPE has gone to extra lengths to ensure that marginalized children in communities such as Chinnari are given a chance to succeed.

Our gratitude to all our supporters whose donations enable us to reach disadvantaged people in communities as far up as 10,000 feet above ground in the mountaintops of Azad Kashmir!

Warm regards,

The HOPE USA Team
